In 1979, Jean-Pierre Jabouille (Renault) made Formula 1 history by winning his first Grand Prix, but above all by bringing a single-seater with a turbocharged engine to victory for the first time.

At the time, however, his success was largely overshadowed by the duel for second place between Gilles Villeneuve (Ferrari) and René Arnoux (Renault) in the closing laps.
